Protect Cambodia's stray animals
Cambodia’s beautiful temples attract tourists from around the world. But they also harbour a heartbreaking secret. The impressive pagodas are often the starting point of the cruel dog and cat meat trade in Cambodia.
Many people dump unwanted cats and dogs at these pagodas due to the common misconception that the monks will provide them with food. While temple animals are often fed with scraps or rice, there is little to no medical care provided. As a result, animal suffering is high. The abundance of vulnerable stray animals at temples also attracts unscrupulous thieves who catch them for meat.
Often drowned or beaten to death, these poor cats and dogs end up on the plates of both locals and tourists alike, who seek out this dish advertised as ‘special meat’.
FOUR PAWS has teamed up with local charity Animal Rescue Cambodia to provide a desperately needed spay and neuter service and rescue for the animals who need it most. The program pays special attention to temples, engaging with monks, nuns, and caregivers to help them provide better animal care to strays across the capital city of Phnom Penh.
Please donate to help keep abandoned animals safe.
