Support the BEAR SANCTUARY Müritz

Opened in 2006, BEAR SANCTUARY Müritz in Germany was fully refurbished in 2012 and now stretches over an area of 16 ha. The park currently houses 17 bears, each with unique but always heartbreaking life stories. The Müritz bears were all rescued from horrible conditions. Some were kept by private owners who did not have the means or motivation to look after the bears. Others were saved from zoos, living in crammed enclosures as little as 60 sqm.

Now the bears can hide, play and roam at their own will in the vast enclosures. The lush woodlands offer ponds and a natural creek, ideal for the water-loving brown bears.

The loving care of the team at BEAR SANCTUARY Müritz ensures that the bears quickly relearn their natural ways. They are challenged with disrupted feeding times and species-appropriate games and treatments to avoid apathetic behaviour often seen in zoo animals.

Even though visitors are welcome, the bears can hide or interact with them as they wish. There is a walking path along the enclosure, but unlike in a zoo, the bears are not on constant display.  During the guided tours, visitors can learn about the bears and their life stories.

Please consider supporting the BEAR SANCTUARY Müritz and give more bears a happy ending to their heartbreaking life stories.
