The FOUR PAWS Emergency Disaster Relief

During emergencies, animals are often the last to be considered in rescue efforts. When people have to from their homes, animals are often left behind. Even those that are freed from their enclosures or leashes, will be left to fend for themselves.

Where victims of disasters are unable or unwilling to help these animals, FOUR PAWS steps in. With the help of our donors and volunteers from around the world, we are able to quickly offer help where it is needed most. In the past 5 years, FOUR PAWS has offered emergency disaster relief on 4 continents.

Only last year we were able to save 13 starving animals from zoos located near war-torn Aleppo in Syria. Most of the animals at the zoo had already died from dehydration and starvation. They were treated by our team and are now being cared for at our Al Ma’wa for Nature and Wildlife sanctuary in Jordan. The high-risk mission paid off; upon arrival at Al Ma’wa, one of the rescued lionesses gave birth to a healthy cub.

But we do not only operate in war zones, natural disasters also leave many animals behind. This was the case in Puerto Rico in September 2017. Still recovering from Hurricane Irma, most inhabitants were unable to care for themselves let alone the many animals on the island after Hurricane Maria hit. FOUR PAWS delivered over 1.8 tons of dog- and cat food to the pets and strays of Puerto Rico in just one weekend. A team of 4 vets located and treated abandoned and owned animals in hard-to-reach areas.

FOUR PAWS aims to step in in all sorts of crisis areas to save the most vulnerable victims of disasters. Please consider supporting our global rescue missions and donate today.
