Support the BEAR SANCTUARY Arbesbach

Founded in 1998, BEAR SANCTUARY Arbesbach offers mistreated and neglected bears a new home that caters to their natural needs. A lush forest, swimming ponds and passionate care from a team of specialists ensure that the bears live their best lives at the sanctuary. The 14-hectare reception park is currently home to 7 rescued brown bears and allows them to live out their natural instincts and behaviour.

Even though the park is open to visitors, they are restricted to a path around the enclosure which allows the bears to roam freely, hide from sight, dig their own holes, bathe or hibernate as they wish. These bears were rescued from private individuals, circuses and zoos and thus need to be reintroduced to their natural instincts and behavioural patterns. Experienced caretakers and veterinarians provide each bear with individual medical and behavioural treatments. FOUR PAWS works closely with scientists and universities who study the behaviour of the bears and document the recovery of the animals as well the progress of instinctive behavioural patterns.

BEAR SANCTUARY Arbesbach is open to visitors and definitely worth a visit if you are in the area! From shy Brumca to playful Jerry, every bear has his or her own life story for visitors to explore. Visitors can see the bears in their natural environment during a walk through the forest and learn more about these fascinating animals at various information points.
